Baldy View Chapter was founded in 1977 and currently meets in Ontario, California.

Membership is open to all stitching levels from beginners to masters. Visitors may attend 2 meetings before joining. Primary membership, which includes national, regional, and local membership, is $60/year.

The Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA) was formed for the express purpose of fostering the art of needlework and associated arts. EGA seeks to promote cooperation and the exchange of ideas among those who are engaged in needlework throughout the world by encouraging a high standard of design and technique in embroidery. EGA provides a center to be used as a bureau of education and information regarding the art of embroidery for all guild members. It is our purpose to conduct instruction and research in the art of needlework and to distribute related materials and publications to members and to the public.

EGA was established in New York in 1958 as a branch of The Embroiderers’ Guild of London (established 1906). EGA withdrew from the London Guild in 1970 and The Embroiderers’ Guild of America came into being.

EGA is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Why Join Baldy View Chapter?

People often ask about the benefits of local chapter membership. The educational opportunities in the EGA are on many levels. Chapter programs are the main activity for most of our members. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, each chapter has its own character. The EGA covers most techniques that "use a needle with an eye." This means that EGA national promotes needlework techniques that include Needlepoint, Counted Cross Stitch, Bead Embroidery, Ribbon Embroidery, Pulled-thread Work, Drawn-thread Work, Counted Canvas, Surface Embroidery, Crewel, and others that are less expected such as Quilting, Needle Tatting, and Smocking. Baldy View made the decision to make many smaller projects in a variety of techniques so that our members can get a small experience with a new technique without have to make a commitment to a large, time-consuming, and often expensive project that they may not like. Each meeting may be a small project that covers one or two meetings, a finishing technique, an educational program, or occasionally just a fun sharing time. Baldy View also participates in 2 monthly stitchalongs that are open to the public.

Every member of a local chapter is also a member of their region. The EGA is divided into 13 regions. Baldy View is a member of the Pacific Southwestern Region. More information about PSR can be found here. Members have access to our biannual Regional Seminar, our biannual sponsorship of 2 Group Correspondence Courses, and an exclusive design commissioned from a leading designer that is FREE to region members. Members also have access to Workshops sponsored by other EGA chapters. These Workshops are taught by prominent local, national, or international teachers.

Local membership also comes with national membership. Members have access to the National Seminar, other Regional Seminars, Group Correspondence Lightning Rounds, and significant extended study opportunities both here in the USA and internationally. Here is more information about that. Members also receive the NeedleArts Magazine 4 times per year, have access to the Study Boxes and Lending Library, Petite Projects, and the ability to receive a Master Craftsman Certification.
